Comparing the checksum of SyphonVault_WebSetup.exe is how you confirm it is exactly the file we published. It is the same file for every version of Syphon Vault, so this checksum stays the same.

Download and open
Open
SyphonVault_WebSetup.exe. It is signed by Kaltora Arise B.V., Syphon's publisher; if Windows still warns you, choose More info, then Run anyway. If Windows says Smart App Control blocked it, read why. -

Install Syphon Vault
Click Install. It gets the newest Syphon Vault and installs it for your Windows user, so no admin rights are needed.

Install DefiantScape
In Syphon Vault, pick DefiantScape and press Install. Press Play and the patcher fetches the newest files.

What you are installing
One application, not a folder of loose files you have to keep in order yourself.
One launcher
Syphon Vault installs DefiantScape, repairs it when a file goes missing and starts it. The DefiantScape shortcut opens the patcher through Syphon Vault, and the patcher gets you into the game.
Updates handle themselves
Every launch it checks the update manifest and downloads only the files that changed since your last session. A content update is usually a few seconds, not another full download. The patcher and Syphon Vault update themselves too.
Always the current build
The game files ship encrypted and are only unpacked when you press play, so there is no way to start an old client by accident and land in a version the server no longer speaks to. Everyone is on the same build.
Revision 236
The client runs on Old School revision 236, so the interface, controls and rendering are what you already know. What differs is the content on the server, not how the game feels to play.
One account, both places
The account you make here is the account you log in with in game. The same credentials work on this site for the hiscores and your dashboard.
What it costs you
About 2 MB for the setup, which fetches the newest Syphon Vault, then 343 MB for the game and around 500 MB installed. To uninstall, press Remove in Syphon Vault: it takes the game away, its firewall rules included.

Common questions
Is DefiantScape free to play?
Yes. The client is free to download and the game is free to play. There is no subscription.
Why does Windows still show a warning?
Syphon Vault's setup is signed by Kaltora Arise B.V., Syphon's publisher, with a certificate Windows trusts. SmartScreen can still warn about a new version until enough people have run it. Choose More info and then Run anyway. If you would rather check first, compare the setup against the SHA-256 checksum above. That tells you it is byte-for-byte the file we published. If Windows says Smart App Control blocked it, that is a different protection with no Run anyway button: read why.
Do I have to download updates myself?
No. Syphon Vault keeps itself up to date, and the patcher checks for updates every time you press Play and downloads only the files that changed.
My antivirus flagged the download. Is that normal?
It can happen with game launchers and patchers, because they download and start other programs, which looks unusual to heuristic scanners. Verify the checksum above; if it matches, the file is exactly what we published. If your antivirus removes a game file, restore it and use Repair in Syphon Vault.
Is there a macOS or Linux client?
Not yet. Windows is the only supported platform today. Both builds are in progress and the Discord announces them first.
The download is slow or keeps stopping.
Syphon Vault carries on where it stopped, also after a lost connection or a restart of your PC. If it stalls repeatedly, try a different network; some providers throttle large downloads.
